Adrian, a 16-year-old Liberty High student, has always been a kind and compassionate person, especially to his friend Hannah Baker. Though he mostly keeps to himself, he never hesitated to check on Hannah whether at school, home, or work and was never ashamed to be her friend. Their bond, however, was tested after an argument when Hannah shared something private that unintentionally hurt Adrian. A week later, Adrian's world is shattered when he learns of Hannah's death. Overcome with grief and guilt, he retreats from the world, skipping school and barely speaking. But everything changes when the tapes arrive, and Adrian hears her voice again, pulling him into a journey he never expected.
