15-year-old Penelope Prescott lost her mother when she was a baby. Shortly after the death of his wife, Penelope's father started seeking for anything that would break him out of his life-threatening grief - religion, medication, therapy, anything. After years of failure, he meets Jeff Curly, a man leading a new religion he founded. With its 300 welcoming members and its strange, hypnotic leader, Penelope's father is immediately enticed, but she is not. There's something about this group, something unsettling. With its violent rituals, strange members, and a leader who uses his followers for drugs, sex, and money, Penelope can't wait to get out. But when she is finally faced with an oppurtunity to escape, she realizes that it may be too late, and she's already in too deep.
