Waverly Odessa is a twenty two year old college student in her last year of her undergrad program. From the outside looking in, she has it all figured out. She has A's and B's, attends almost every class, and she seems put together. However, Waverly has a secret she's been carrying with her, no one, not even her closest friends know. She's been sick. The prognosis is 3-5 years. It's been two years since she was diagnosed. And now she isn't sure the degree she pursued is what she fully wanted.
Luke Odessa is Waverly's thirty year old brother. He rented a house less than a couple miles from her university so she had a place to stay and a person to lean on if she needed it. He's there just in case she falls too ill.
Zach Rivers is a twenty two year old student she met in one of her major classes. He has the looks but not the grades. After finding out she's doing well in class, he asks for her help. She agrees to help him. After all, he's kind and polite. And all Waverly wants is a one way ticket to a better place when her time comes.
Jack Everson is a professor in her creative writing class with a PhD in English and writing. After Waverly realizes her dream of becoming an author, even if it's just one book, she confides in him. Explaining to him that she doesn't know how much time she has left, he agrees to help her find her way in the world of writing.
Heidi Everson, Jack's wife is the support group leader of Heidi's Miracles and a survivor as well. She helps Waverly truly come to terms with her diagnosis because she believes everyone deserves peace of mind, whether or not they survive.
