She holds the guitar delicately, blowing off the dust. As it flies around her, she runs a hand over the strings. Her nail plucks one, it vibrating against her finger. A grin creeps onto her lips. She shuts the case, the bold white letters now visible again. "Property of Miguel Leonardo Alcaraz". With quivering legs, she stands back up with the guitar in her hands. This is how she can fix this all.

He wanted the whole thing to be a surprise and I guess this was part of it? I set the paper back where I found it, ignoring the confusion and laying back down as I tried to find comfort in the blankets scattered around me. The New American Dream
"I see the world and it seems like I see it so differently than most other people. It makes me really angry most of the time. Especially since no one ever listens to me or what I've got to say. I try to express myself in so many different ways and no one sees it. When I sing a song people will only care about how the music sounds or how much I swore. If I paint, people will see the picture but not the meaning. It seems so obvious to me but everyone just seems to... close their eyes. Or at least shut off their brain. As if I see things they don't. But when they don't listen, how can I communicate that to them? It's so frustrating." Allie is a high school student and has big plans to make the world a better place. But her own head is pitting against her, throwing rocks in her path on a daily basis. Everything seems to be great for a while but what happens when her world suddenly comes crashing down around her? Can she ever recover? A coming-of-age story that deals with mental ilnesses, grief, first loves and family, briefly taps into the subject of religion and will likely enrapture you. Trigger warning: mental illnesses, self harm, death, dealing with grief, mentions of guns and gun control, mentions of cults, mentions of homophobia, dissociation. Names of bands, band members and song titles have been changed but at this point I want to credit mainly Palaye Royale, the band 'Homesick Soldiers' that is mentioned throughout is heavily based off them, but I'm sure if you're familiar with them you would have been able to tell that :)Complete

Rebecca Adams has been reading books since before she could walk, or at least her mother was reading them to her until she was able to do it herself. Books are her life, her fantasy world derived from the millions of words she had read over the years and her reality suffered for it. School wasn't quite the place Sweet Valley High made it out to be, the night never revealed the mythical creatures from her Dracula obsession and of course there was never a guy who matched up to her ultimate book boyfriend, Brock McDougal. The main character from the Lyrics to my Heart series had it all and while she didn't think she set her standards too high, hitting twenty two had left her single, practically a virgin and the joke of all her friends. Tears started to swell in my eyes so I looked back down at my lap, "It's okay..." I was quickly cut off when his other hand reached up towards my face. He grabbed my chin softly before forcing me to look back up at him. "Don't bullshit me Angel. It's not okay, and it's okay to not be okay either." After really dissecting his words I couldn't hold back any longer. The tears started to uncontrollably stream down my face. Without another word he slides over closer to me and pulls me into the side of his chest, holding me tightly. Emery Miller, a 19 year old aspiring photographer moves to Outer Banks North Carolina a year after her older sister, Leah goes missing. Emery doesn't expect much out of life, at least not anymore. Not since she's been let down by every person who has ever made a promise to her. She keeps her head down, doesn't step on anyone's toes, doesn't rely on anyone & that's how she likes it. She lives a simple life in the shadows with her nose buried deep in books & her camera strap always over her neck just in case. That was until a certain mysterious musician who lives next door takes an interest to her. Luca St. James is everything Emery tries to stay away from. The popularity, the looks, the money, the devilish personality that keeps her on her toes. The 21 year old lead singer has it all. No matter how infuriating he is, she just can't seem to stay away from him & he can't seem to stay away either. No matter how hard he tries.
