At Stonebridge high the social hierarchy is as clear as the dividing lines in the cafeteria. The popular students rule the school, while everyone else either admires them or quietly despises them. Tabitha Dylan, a 16-year-old with a bright smile and a sharp mind for chemistry, had it all: beauty, wealth, a high social status, and the perfect grades to back it up. She was the girl everyone wanted to be-or wanted to take down.

One rainy Wednesday morning, the school is thrown into chaos when Tabitha is found dead in the chemistry lab. Her body is discovered sprawled on the floor near broken glass and chemical spills. There are no security cameras in the lab, and her death is quickly ruled a suicide by the authorities. A note is found near her belongings, written in her own handwriting: "I'm sorry. I can't keep pretending everything is fine."

But people still questioned if was it really suicide? And so did Flynn Jackson, a quiet, despised but clever student who was at Stonebridge high because he got a scholarship.

"Why not?"- Flynn asked himself looking at the investigation reports he got from his father that worked as security at the NYPD.

Hope can't remember what happened the night of the tragedy, but everyone assures her she couldn't have done anything to save her sister. Juliet Price has attended Redwood High since the beginning of sophomore year, but she's never spoken to Hope, Juliet doesn't fit in with her classmates as she wasn't born rich and she didn't grow up getting everything she wanted. The only reason Juliet is at the exclusive private school is because she's living with her wealthy aunt and uncle. Juliet knows what happened to Eleanor Flynn, most of the world does. The Flynn family are very wealthy and very famous. Even though Juliet and Hope have never spoken, Juliet can tell that Hope is acting weird and she doesn't think it's entirely because Eleanor is dead. When Juliet and Hope are brought together through a class project, Juliet starts to realize that Hope won't be able to start moving on unless she finds out what happened the night her sister died, and why she can't remember it. When the two start investigating, they realize that the truth is pointing to something dark. Almost everyone attending Redwood has secrets, and they'll do what it takes to keep them private. When the truth starts to come out, Hope is left to wonder if she remembers the dreadful night and finds out she had something to do with it, will she ever forgive herself?
