Deirdre is the second book in the Annals of Orbis, following the sister of Daphne (read Adrastea, book 1 in the Annals of Orbis) who is imprisoned in Crow Haven, and Miguel, the youngest Pavia brother who is tasked with the infiltration of the Grapevine and the less daunting, but far more infuriating task of preserving Deirdre's life.
