The moonlight filtered through the window, caressing my silver hair with an ethereal glow. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, my fingers grazing the cold surface as if I could pass through it, as if another version of myself was waiting on the other side.
There had always been a voice inside me, a delicate whisper telling me that the world I knew wasn't the only one. I can't say exactly when I first heard it, but I remember the feeling well: an inexplicable certainty, a heartbeat that told me that somewhere, beyond human understanding, another sky existed under which I could walk.
It wasn't madness. It was a calling.
I have always felt out of place, like a shadow moving through the cracks of reality. The world around me is too rigid, too defined. People are content with written rules, with the laws of time and space, but I know that all of this is just an illusion.
I take a deep breath and close my eyes.
"I am about to cross."
Tonight, like many nights before, I will lie down on my bed, slow my breathing, and with my heart pounding in anticipation, I will let reality fade away. I know that somewhere, another version of me is waiting with open arms.
And I, Ayase, am ready to answer the call.
