The arrival of the alien vessel wasn't an auspicious occasion. Instead, it triggered a cataclysmic shift in reality, imbuing a segment of humanity with extraordinary, often volatile, powers.

He lunged for it, furious. "I'm not leaving that there!" The woman cut him off, grabbing his arm. "Trust me. It's the best choice right now." They bolted through the undergrowth, lungs burning. Behind them, their pursuers came to a halt, eyes fixing on the abandoned pack lying in the mud. She smirked. "Now, stay right th-" Click. The blast ripped through the forest, the shockwave flinging them into the dirt. Leaves and fire rained down. The man lifted his head, face pale with fury. "You made me carry explosives for hundreds of kilometres! Do you realise if that went off early, I'd be dead?" She rolled onto her back, chest heaving, eyes glittering with amusement. "But it didn't."
