After almost being drowned by a lake monster, Lee gets approached by Reef Marine, pronounced Mare-in, a mermaid who's been cursed with Living Death, the ultimate punishment given to those convicted of the most heinous magical crimes. But Reef claims he's innocent, and Lee has an inkling maybe the sopping-wet man before her is telling the truth. So Lee agrees to take on his case, and together they set out to discover the the real murderer. But there's someone or something, that wants the truth to stay buried.
