Dan Howell is just an ordinary teenager. He goes to parties, gets super drunk and then does it all over again. He isn't what society would call 'popular', but then again he isn't unpopular either. He has a large circle of friends at school that he knows he can trust and rely on.
Phil Lester is, well, different. His cute personality and good looks make him attractive to both girls and guys, but his personal issues and mental health prove to be a strong barrier for him. He is selectively mute (he only talks to people he feels comfortable with).
When Phil moves to Oakwood High, for the first week he struggles through everything alone, whether it's skipping lessons or hiding out in toilets where no one can see him cry. But when Dan walks in on Phil having a full-on panic attack, everything changes.
