Allison Brunei is a Canadian who volunteered to help the war. She was trained as a nurse, then trained to fly war planes in case of emergencies as she is a flight nurse. She was placed with the 305th bomb group until she was moved to the 100th bomb group as she was needed there. That's where she met Major John "Bucky" Egan.

The Eighth Air Force's 100th Bomb Group was better known as 'The Bloody 100th'. It was nicknamed as such due to the devastating number of casualties suffered in its first mission in 1943, after America joined Britain and her allies in defeating the Axis Powers. Cecilia Green had a rotation of nicknames that those around her loved to call her: Cecilia, Ceci, Blue, Nurse Green, Captain. To the Air Force, she was affectionately known as a 'Winged Angel'. However, it didn't matter what anyone would call her when they cried out in agony, shrapnel from flak cutting through their flesh, or blisters coating their skin. Buck wanted to go home. He wanted nothing more than to be back with his family and to go home. Things had been rough this last year though, first his leg got crushed, he had a pulmonary embolism, he was told he couldn't come back to work, and then there was a tsunami. Even with now being allowed back at work after making the mistake of filing a lawsuit, things were still a bit strained. His family and home still felt like they were an arm's length out of reach.
