The House at the Edge of the Woods

In a quiet town, an old abandoned house stood, its broken windows and sagging roof whispering tales of vanished souls. Parents warned their children, but the legend remained: a family disappeared there, and their voices still called for help.

One autumn evening, a bold boy named Eli moved to town. When he heard the story, he laughed. "Ghosts aren't real," he said. His new friends dared him to spend an hour inside at midnight. Eli accepted.

Under a moonless sky, he walked through the forest, leaves crunching underfoot. As he reached the house, the air turned icy. The front door creaked open on its own. Swallowing his fear, Eli stepped inside.

The house was silent, filled with dust and forgotten furniture. "Nothing's here," he thought-until a child's giggle echoed from upstairs. His heart pounded, but he climbed the stairs. At the end of a long hallway, a red door stood ajar, faint light flickering beneath it.

He pushed it open. The room was empty, except for words scrawled on the wall: FIND ME. Suddenly, the door slammed shut. His flashlight flickered and died. Bare footprints appeared in the dust, moving toward him.

"Who's there?" Eli whispered.

Laughter turned shrill. A small girl in a torn white dress materialized, hollow-eyed and grinning with sharp, broken teeth. "You shouldn't have come," she whispered.

The walls bled. More figures emerged-a tall man with long arms, a woman with a rusted knife, and twisted shadows lurking in the darkness.

"Join us," the girl hissed. The room shook, the floor cracking open to reveal glowing red eyes in the abyss. Eli screamed, scrambling to escape. His reflection in the window showed the creatures closing in.

Desperate, he threw himself against the glass-

-but he never hit the ground.

By morning, the house was sealed shut. Eli had vanished. Some say his face appears in the upstairs window on moonless nights, forever trapped. Others hear laughter in the woods.
