Elenore was supposed to be dead. Even now, years later, it's as though her body and mind remember this fact. With each passing winter she felt her debt grow heavier, the truth of her existence scorched into her mind.
Her life was an exchange.
A desperate plea from her mother, bound in blood to a mysterious deity that haunts the windswept moors. She would be born a healthy, living child... Yet at the age of twenty-four she would be swept up into its world as its bride. Her soul forever bound to it. Her heart filled with a treacherous longing.
Each night it haunts her dreams and by day her eyes are plagued by visions of a world filled with dead things and a kingdom that crumbles under ground.

Iris would do anything for her daughter. Kill for her even, if she had to.
She never intended for it-- for him-- to ruin it all. One stupid mistake, one moment of desperation had damned them all.
She had only wanted to keep Elenore safe. To keep the last remaining piece of her husband alive within her.
The price for this was heavy. Too heavy. And with Elenore's twenty fourth birthday quickly approaching, Iris wonders how far she may need to go to keep her daughter safe.

He never thought to break a rule, there was too much fear deep in his heart. He never thought to break any rules, until she was able to see him. Humans. Humans don't have true sight. They aren't seers, or creatures of Kadotaru. So why can she see him? Why does she reach out to help him? He watched as her eyes skimmed over his dark eyes and black hair with barely a reaction. He felt his pride twinge a bit so he went further. Lifting his hands, he let the blood drip from them. Her eyes widened slightly and her chin rose. She looked at his hands then back at him. His dark eyes gleamed in a challenge. "You've not harmed me or mine, faery." She spoke out loud. "Blood does not scare me and neither do you. Keep your dog on its leash." Then she turned and calmly walked back inside. Intrigued now, he went to the window of the house and watched as she reassured her mother that the dog was gone "I'll see you tonight, reckless child." He promised softly. **** Marcus felt himself beginning to wake and struggled to stay in the dream. But it was no use. His eyes opened and he released the pillow his hand was gripping. It was the same one that she had laid her head on every night. His head went into the pillow heavily for a moment, breathing in her faint scent. He hated and treasured dreams like that with equal fervor. He rolled over on his back and stared at the ceiling. It had been decades since she'd been forced to break that promise. He lifted his hand and touched the ring that had been her last gift. It had been decades, but it was yesterday. ***I did not skimp on the steamy scenes so consider yourselves warned ok?
