As Kieran embarks on a mission to prove that the legends were real, unedited accounts of magic in Ancient China, Katharyn rewrites the myths with her own creative spin. Together, the pair encounter groundbreaking discoveries, revelations, and strange signs which reveal the truth-and the interconnectedness-of the folktales they know and love.

When the two return home for the summer, their families start pushing them toward a fate of eternal union that neither of them want.
