The woman let out a deep sigh, rubbing her temples as if bracing herself. "Are you really going to keep living with her? Are you still willing to accept her?"

He scoffed, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. "Accepting her? I'm more surprised that she's accepting me-after having such monsters in her life."

She closed her eyes, a single tear slipping down her cheek. Her hand ached to reach for his, but he pulled away, his gaze fixed elsewhere.

"Please, listen to me. Just once," she begged, her voice trembling.

"There's nothing to listen to," he replied, his tone cold, detached.

"Please..." Her knees felt weak beneath her. "I was trying to save you."

His expression remained unreadable as he finally met her eyes. "Save me from who?"
