After leaving the police force five years ago after confronting corruption and violence in the NYPD, former Detective John Reilly has built a life for himself selling newspapers and magazines outside of Spanish Harlem in New York. Everyone pretty much ignores him, still trying to get a look at what's going on in their usually still neighborhood. The streets get darker and darker the farther Barrett walks away from the police lights. Every other street in this town is still fast asleep, with no idea of what could have happened just a block away from them. But it had been prevented. All thanks to him. Barrett finally comes upon his car, and slips inside. It's already way warmer than the outside air, so he lets out a small sigh of relief. This mission is over and done with.
