Chapter 1: The Weakest Awakening
In the bustling city of Eldara, where towering skyscrapers intertwined with ancient relics of a magical past, humanity thrived amidst the chaos of portals opening to other realms. Hunters-elite warriors blessed with supernatural abilities-were humanity's first line of defense against monstrous invaders known as Behemoths. These Hunters were ranked from S-Class, the strongest, to Chick-Class, an unofficial term for those considered too weak to be of any use.
Rin Asakura, a seventeen-year-old boy with unruly black hair and determined amber eyes, stood nervously in the Awakening Chamber of the Hunter Guild. Today was his Awakening Ceremony, where latent abilities would manifest, determining his future. His heart pounded like a war drum, not from excitement but fear. Not for himself, but for his ailing mother, Hana. She had been everything to him after his father's mysterious disappearance during a dungeon raid ten years ago.
"Next! Rin Asakura," the examiner called, his bored tone echoing off the metallic walls.
Rin stepped forward, placing his hand on the crystal orb pulsating with ethereal light. A surge of warmth shot through his veins, and the orb flashed... faintly. The color was a pale yellow, almost mocking in its dimness.
"Chick-Class," the examiner sighed, scribbling on his clipboard. "Barely above non-Awakened. No offensive abilities detected."
Snickers erupted from the crowd of new Awakened Hunters. Rin clenched his fists, humiliation burning hotter than any flame. But he didn't care about their laughter. He only cared about earning enough money to pay for his mother's treatments.
