"I'm still a child," Colette said, "and I want to feel like one." It felt like bird wings fluttering against bars. An eldest sibling trying to recover youth and innocence, an only child determined to grow up and shake off naïveté.

The story of seventeen-year-old Brandy and her best friend Colette planning out their upcoming summer, filling it with all of the childhood experiences that have been prevented by Brandy's strict religious household and removed by the weight of Colette's eldest-daughter responsibilities. They may or may not be trespassing, and they may or may not run for their lives off the train tracks. Inspired by "Scarlett" by Holly Humberstone.
