The town of South Park Colorado is reborn in a magically based world where there is no such defined "human race" seeing as people are grouped into 1 of 4 categories when they turn twelve years old; the normies, the necromancers, the supernatural, and the hunters. Once a time ago each group had their own jobs and such, for instance before 1965 the supernatural class were persecuted by the hunters-which is now thankfully outlawed. One societal role that hasn't died off or been outlawed was the practice that the supernatural had to create contracts of partnership with a singular human of their choosing - a soul binding contract, the terms of which are always different depending on who the being signs it with.

Pete Thelman,now 18, believes he was cursed to be born with the mark of the necromancer underneath his eye. While His friends - Henrietta 18f (mark: necromancer), Michael 19m(mark: hunter), and Firkle 12m (mark: supernatural;demon) all seem to not care about their marks, while most everyone else seems to base their entire lives on them.
When Mike Makowski tries to convince Pete to create the contract with him, he takes it that the vampire wanted to take advantage of it, and force him to admit that the vampires were better than the goths- as if that will ever happen.
