Gazeteci Elif Yaman, büyük şehirde geçen yılların ardından, doğup büyüdüğü küçük kasabaya geri döner. Asıl amacı sadece bir süre dinlenmek ve geçmişiyle yüzleşmektir. Ancak bir gün, eski kütüphanenin tozlu raflarında adı bilinmeyen birine ait, yıllar öncesine ait bir günlük bulur. Sayfalar ilerledikçe, günlüğün 20 yıl önce işlenmiş ve faili asla bulunamamış bir cinayetle bağlantılı olduğunu keşfeder.

Araştırmaya başladığında, kasaba halkının bu olayı hatırlamak istemediğini fark eder. Ne zaman geçmişe dair bir soru sorsa, cevaplar hep yarım kalır, gözler kaçırılır. Üstelik, bulduğu günlükte yazan son cümle onu adeta tutsak eder:

"Eğer bunu okuyorsan, sıradaki sensin."

O andan itibaren, Elif takip edildiğini, izlenildiğini ve tehdit edildiğini hissetmeye başlar. Geceleri evinin önünde beliren esrarengiz bir adam, bilinmeyen numaralardan gelen uyarı mesajları ve kasabanın en güvenilir insanlarının sakladığı sırlar...

Elif, bu cinayetin peşine düştükçe, aslında bu olayın kendi geçmişiyle çok daha derin bir bağı olduğunu keşfeder. Öldürülen kişi, kasaba için sadece eski bir hikâyeden ibaret değildir. Onun hayatı, Elif'in bildiğinden çok daha fazla şey değiştirmiştir.
