Eliza traced the outline of the Big Dipper on the crisp night air, the chill biting at her fingertips. Reed stood beside her, his shoulder brushing hers, a silent warmth against the cold. They'd been stargazing like this all night long, sharing secrets whispered in the night.
Eliza knew Reed's constellations as well as she knew the lines of his face - the laugh lines crinkling around his eyes when he was truly happy, the way his brow furrowed in concentration. Their lives were woven together, a spun from shared dreams and quiet understanding.
Tonight, however, felt different. A tension hummed beneath the surface, as bright and undeniable as the distant stars. Eliza felt it in the way Reed's hand hovered near hers, not quite touching.
"I'll always be here, you know," Reed said, his voice soft.
Eliza turned, her breath catching in her throat. "Here?" she asked, though she understood.
He met her gaze, his eyes mirroring the twinkle of the night sky. "Always. No matter what."
Eliza reached for his hand, her fingers interlacing with his. The chill of the night faded, replaced by the warmth of his touch, a promise as eternal as the constellations above them. Their love, she knew, was written in the stars.
