Doe is the last of her kind.

Half-human, half-wood-elf, she lives a hardscrabble life with her father, Bardon, in a dusty fringe town on the edge of the immense Manish Empire. With her mother vanished and her people's ancient forests crumbling into ruin, her only inheritance is the taunts of locals and the velvety nubs of antlers on her head.

When they are thrown out of their home with nothing, Doe makes a desperate choice: to risk her life in the deadly elven ruins that claimed so many others, joining a band of adventurers seeking fortune and glory.

But the ruin holds more than gold. It hides the secret to her mother's disappearance and the most powerful artifact of the ancient elven world: The Echo-Silver Lute. Legend says its music can make forests grow and rivers run anew-a power that could reverse the magical decline of the world of Magia. In taverns, they joke it can make women fertile, but Doe soon learns its true power is no laughing matter.

Now, hunted by the relentless legionnaires of the Empire who want the lute to fuel their conquest, and pursued by rivals who will kill for its power, Doe must embrace her forgotten heritage. To save her father and protect a power she doesn't understand, the last wood-elf must learn to trust her animal instincts and become the guardian the world lost long ago.
