the time was 1989 and 10 year old jaylen had just moved in on melrose avenue, just him, his older brother who was in 9th grade at the time, and his single mother. jaylen sees a group of young boys around his age and decides to go try and make some new friends, the 5 other boys his met seemed to be really cool because their mothers didn't really give a shit what they did.
about two weeks of hanging out with the boys did jaylen realize that only one of them did not like him, santiago, his mother raised him to hate african american people and so he did. finally, it all comes down to a game of truth or dare that changed their lives forever.

Jayceon Terrell Taylor a.k.a Jay grew up in a dysfunctional home. He was constantly abused by his mother's various "suga daddies". At age 13 Jay, neglected had to look after his two younger siblings: Jadiel, 10 and Jaquan who was 7. Jay had no real father to be there for him. He had no one to answer his questions while growing up so being scared and battling with his siblings he decided to turn to the streets. Here he met his "brothers". Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school.
