Strange deaths near a remote forest lead a man to uncover something unnatural lurking in the shadows. As he ventures deeper, the line between curiosity and survival blurs, and he soon realizes some horrors can't be buried-or escaped.
I wrote this over a decade ago, one of my first short stories. Stumbled on it not too long ago and decided to give it a quick polish and upload. Enjoy 😊.

The Winged
Surviving can be difficult when you're only a few inches tall. Fanged beasts see you as their prey, every creature is bigger than you, and the world seems to work against small things. Not to mention the struggles of getting from place to place... but the worst of it all? Humans. Once a year, every year, summer sweeps over the forest.
