The Glass Box

I live inside a glass box - silent, invisible, unbreakable. It follows me wherever I go, separating me from the other side. I have never stepped outside the glass box. I never tried. The thought alone terrifies me.

Beyond the glass, life moves freely, untouched by the weight of my glass box.
Beyond the glass, there is danger. Only a thin wall stands between me and the other side,
it seems as if just one step would be enough to close the distance, but in reality, it couldn't be far enough. Love and warmth press against the surface, but they never seep through.
I watch, I listen, and that's it. I am not a part of this world,
I wasn't supposed to be - I'm just an observer, a ghost drifting through a world that is not mine, and in a body that does not feel like my own.

But inside! Inside I have all that I need! Books, movies, poetry, flowers, coffee, the vast expanse of the internet, and a mind rich with imagination. Here, I am safe. Here, I do not have to risk being hurt.

Though I know the box is there to keep me safe, sometimes I feel trapped.

And so I write...
