His fingers came to my chin, forcing me to look at him.
"Queen," he murmured, his voice dark, "you wanted to die?"

I didn't answer.
I just stared at him.
He smiled-cold, cruel.
"I see. Your mouth isn't working now, is it?"

My jaw tightened painfully.
Then he leaned closer, his grip firm, his voice dropping to a whisper-

"You want to die... but I won't let you."

My breath hitched.

"You don't get to die unless I allow it."

For a second, my mind went blank.
I just looked at him.
Is he even in his right mind?

His hold loosened just enough for me to breathe.

My eyes drifted to the edge of the cliff.
To the drop.
His arms were still around me-loose... but there.

I took a deep, shaky breath.
"And if I decide," I said quietly, "that I don't care what you allow?"

The satisfaction on his face disappeared.
I pulled away from him.

Without another word, I walked back to the car and got inside.
