The Battle of Thessala left the Ultramarines crippled and humbled, worst of all their Primarch was nearly killed, only prevented by the immediate actions of the surviving marines. For 10,000 years Guilliman sat in stasis, immobile, and unable to act. In this degraded state Chaos pressed their advantage, stretching its tendrils into his mind attempting to corrupt him for their own desires.
This is a work of Fanfiction; I do not own GW or Warhammer 40k. Some chapters explore the canon universe of 40k and some of the fan made what-if universes.

It is the 41st Millennium and the Imperium of Man only knows war. Chaos threatens to topple it, aliens and Xenos come at it from all sides. There is only war. While in isolation, plagued by his visions of what shall happen without his involvement, he, too, receives an unexpected visitor: a Harlequin Solitaire with a keen interest on seeing him reunited with his Ultramarine. The Gruefall Crisis. A WH40K Story.
The year is M42. Roboute Guilliman's Indomitus crusade is in full force. Deep with in Segmentum Pacificus a tide of green flesh painted in deathskulls' blue are stirring, preparing to strike at the fifth most important drydock within the galactic sector. A system the Imperium of Man cannot lose, for the price of a system like this falling into xenos hands are better left to the imagination. Every man, woman and child will fight and work in order to stave of this invasion. While a small group of the Deathwatch Astartes has been sent to aid them. The Orks are not as dim as they seem though, so the fighting will be brutal and the collateral damage high but one thing stands above all. Gruefall cannot fall. Also it is my first ever writing project so be kind :).
