Being one of the biggest sugarcane growers worldwide, India is the world's largest producer of sugarcane jaggery. About 60% of the jaggery produced worldwide comes from India. Every year, the nation produces over 10 million metric tons of jaggery. 
Among all the states in India, Uttar Pradesh is the major producer of sugarcane jaggery followed by Tamil Nadu. Jaggery is consumed directly or used for the preparation of sweet confectionery items and traditional (ayurvedic) medicines.
