Johanna Erikson is a dead woman walking, a ghost.

For a little over five years she's been running, fighting, surviving. All because her father believed humans and dragons could exist together peacefully. At fifteen, her village was burnt to a crisp and her family was murdered in cold blood by none other than Drago Bludvist. At twenty-one, she's the last one left, which means Drago wants her and everything she has ever loved removed from the archipelago like it never existed in the first place. What does Johanna do? She runs, she fights, and she survives. She keeps people out of her life in fear that they'll meet the same fate as her family. The only living thing she lets in is her Fate Screecher- Azalea.

So when the most stubborn and sarcastic Viking north of Iceland decides that it's his current project to rehabilitate this battle-worn and cynical warrior, it's like hitting two rocks against each other. He just wants to help but she won't let him get any closer than that. It's like she's afraid of something, but she just won't tell him what!
