When Natasha notices that she is starting to develop feelings for Wanda Maximoff, she doesn't want to admit it to herself. "Love is for children", this is what she was taught over and over again. She makes the decision that this is probably just sexual tension and if she has a good time with Wanda, it will all be out of her system. When she's on the next mission together with the Scarlet Witch and she sees Wanda is in danger, she risks her own safety to make sure that the witch is safe. But when years pass, she can't help but feel like a mother figure towards the little girl. When the twins suddenly disappear, she is convinced that they must be dead, which breaks her heart. So she is very surprised when 8 years later, Wanda her magic appears once more, this time in the form of a powerful hex trapping an entire town. As Agatha arrives realisation fills her that Wanda does not know who she is. She just wants to figure out what happened and make Wanda remember. If she has to pose as Agnes the nosy neighbor to do this, so be it. When Wanda discovers who she is but there is still no recognision, Agatha is completely broken. Giving her the lie that she wants her powers for herself ensures that Wanda will take away all of Agatha's pain, one way or another.
