I tried to forget him- his eyes, his touch, his smile, his scent. Every trace of him that still lived under my skin. But forgetting your mate is impossible. Jeremiah didn't just leave me... he ran. From me. From us. From my family. And maybe, in his own broken way, he thought letting go would save us both. I told myself I'd do the same. I buried the bond, hardened my heart, and threw myself into my father's brutal training, earning my place in military intelligence. My mother fought it. My father stood proud. War became my escape. When conflict erupted in the Eastern Lands-known as the Skeleton Lands-I volunteered without hesitation. Strategy, bloodshed, survival. Anything to silence the ache he left behind. But fate is cruel. The moment I arrived, I smelled him. The one scent my body would never forget. Jeremiah was no longer just my past-he was the Lord Military Commander of the South. The very man I was ordered to work under. The very mate I swore I'd never fall for again. Now, surrounded by war, secrets, and enemies on every side, fate was playing a deadly game. And this time... I refused to be its pawn.

She is the Communicator of the New Area. The Communicators do the one job other humans are too afraid to do, communicating and preventing violence between wolves and humans. "My name is Alara. I'm the new Communicator. This is my first day. I-" "I know what Communicators are all about," he interrupts. "I've met many over the years. You speak of understanding and cooperation while your guns are loading behind your backs." "That's not-" "Save your diplomatic bullshit for someone who hasn't heard it before." His voice remains calm, which somehow makes it more terrifying. "I want the human who killed one of our own." "We have laws-" "Your laws." The contempt is undisguised now. "Your laws that somehow always find humans innocent of crimes against wolves. Your laws that punish a wolf's defense of territory as aggression. Your laws that treat us as animals when it suits you and as criminals when it doesn't." This is the first book in the series, so please don't expect anything perfect just yet. It's a first draft and a work in progress :)
