After her mother's death, Jesse Parker decided that she needed to be more independent, starting with moving out of her parents house.
She buys an excellent new home for an exceptional price. It's worth much more, but the low cost is probably due to the basement flooding or something.
While moving in, she meets Jamie Beckingham, the sweet seven year old who lives in the neighborhood.
Jesse spends much of her time with Jamie, because Jamie's mother works constantly.
Jesse notices something about Jamie. Something off.
Once she starts investigating, she realizes Jamie might not be as sweet as she thought.
Jesse doesn't believe in ghosts. Until Jamie.

This story is not getting the attention it deserves, so I am attempting to "re-brand" it. Maybe no one "gets" it. If you want to read about "Normal" teenagers, maybe this isn't for you, it's more complicated than that. It's about a teenager who doesn't fit it, but doesn't want to, who has the best two friends that anyone could have. Who watched his father lose his job in the Recession and then loses his home, and how he copes, especially when he learns that their new house is haunted and the ghost is in his room. Michael was an average kid, although he's always stood out. He was a school jock but also a skater whose long blond hair almost reaches his waist. When his parents lived in a house in a home owners association like all his other friends, life seemed normal. Then his father lost his job and suddenly those "friends" weren't there anymore--except for his two best friends, Short Round and Dewey. When Michael loses his home and his family has to move they have his back. And they are there for him when the ghost girl starts following him around.
