The first time Ember saw Kael, she knew he was trouble. Fire and Water did not mix. It was the first lesson she had learned as a child in Pyros, the city of flames. Water doused fire, and fire evaporated water-it was the law of nature. But when she locked eyes with him across the Elemental Summit, something deep within her cracked, like embers meeting a cold breeze. Kael, the Water Elementalist from the ocean city of Vaylan, was everything she wasn't-calm, composed, flowing like a river. He wore his element like a second skin, his deep-blue robes shimmering with moisture, his fingers tracing idle patterns in the air that sent ripples of water floating around him. Ember, in contrast, burned with barely-contained energy, her crimson tunic flickering with heat, her hands always curled into fists to keep the fire at bay. For the first time in her life, Fire did not burn. For the first time in his life, Water did not yield. But love between opposites was never easy.

[SPOILER ALERT! This is the sequel to "Elementals". If you haven't read it, don't read further.] Following the events on the moon, our two Elementals, Breeze and Blaze, continue to develop their powers for the field-duty that lies ahead. As they go, different challenges lie ahead: Blaze continues experience voids in her memory, while Breeze holds back the death of their Senior. Blaze has yet to figure it out as they embark on their training, closely watched by Grand Master Vulcano who continues to manipulate Blaze's fragile mind. Breeze on the other hand, grows more and more aware of his surroundings, and gets to know his new ally Aqú even better, but Blaze is suspicious of Aqú, only knowing him as Senior Fall. She does not trust him and she can't seem to figure out why Breeze does. They are evolving in two different directions that might see them drift further apart than they ever imagined. What will happen when they find themselves on two different paths? Rankings: #88 in Science Fiction (10/4-15)
