One year ago, Iris's brother was killed. Now, she is haunted by endless dreams and waking visions of him. Grief, it seems, will not allow her a moment's respite. Nor has her father fared well either, and Iris fears that he may do something reckless to avenge his son's memory. 

When rumors of a veilspeaker - one who speaks with the dead - reach Iris, she is at her wits end. This may be exactly what she needs to put her dreams to rest and keep her father safe. But this veilspeaker is not an easy person to reach, if they exist at all.




This is my submission for the 2025 Open Novella Contest. It is the sequel to Shadewalker, but it can be read as a standalone novella.

Amidst escalating tension and conflict, an unexpected source of solace materialized in the form of my father, ushering the narrative into an unforeseen trajectory.
