Lucian Veilwood never wanted power. In fact, he's spent most of his life perfecting the fine art of avoiding responsibility. So when the Emperor unexpectedly appoints him as the Lord of Duskwatch-a remote, crumbling wasteland on the empire's edge-he assumes it's a clerical error or a cruel joke.

Determined to do the bare minimum, Lucian abolishes taxes, refuses to enforce laws, and relies entirely on the town to govern itself. But somehow, against all logic, Duskwatch begins to flourish. Former bandits become lawmen, struggling merchants build a thriving trade network, and an eccentric militia forms under the leadership of a brawling ex-knight.

As rumors of his "brilliant" policies spread, envious nobles seek to undermine him, and the Emperor watches with growing curiosity. With his sarcastic steward, an exiled knight who thrives on chaos, and an entire town convinced he's a genius ruler, Lucian must navigate political intrigue, assassins, and increasing expectations-all while doing his best to avoid actual work.

Unfortunately for him, he might just be too good at this ruling thing.

Rule one and the most important of five: Do not kill anyone not affiliated with the job at hand, "We are Mercenaries, not murderers". Jackson, a Mercenary, been one since he was very young. He is a man that has gained, and earned, respect, to the highest degree. If someone doesn't know who he is, they'll learn. Very, quickly. So will you. So first things first I love being vague so if you don't understand what I'm talking about or something it will probably be explained later so stay with me. Secondly first chapter is complete shite, I would change it but I'm lazy and it sets up my characters so I'm not just gonna delete it. So read the first chapter for the plot and please continue to the second if you still don't like my writing then you can leave, that's all I'm asking. So that's all I got to say so I'm gonna get on with it. Also I swear a fuck ton so if you don't like swearing get out.

Being a trapeze artist may hide her from the government, but it's not so fun when the manager is a raving lunatic and there's likely to be a crazed pervert in the crowd. So when the big top gets demolished- literally- Luna sees it as a ticket to freedom (contracts are generally void once a business has been destroyed). What she doesn't see are the doors to her past creaking open, and their contents coming to haunt her. ZACH is normal...ish. As normal as a Gifted kid can be. His brand of normalcy includes a kickass grandma, childhood trauma and your everyday run of the mill dragon, but hey, he's not as insane as the others. Really, Zach is thirsting for adventure. Something that doesn't involve babysitting siblings or feuding with his parents. He should've been careful what he wished for.
