"Would you die for me, Mar?"
"No, but I will kill for you. And that's more than I would ever do for anyone else"

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful and kind-hearted young priestess who dedicated her life and virtue to Athena, the goddess of wisdom.
She was favoured by both Athena and her worshipers. Men and women alike flocked to the temple of Athena to witness the selfless young Medusa serving her goddess with grace and determination.
However, there was someone who came to the temple with other intentions. Posideon, the god of the sea, had lusted after the young maiden for a while, yet she, loyal to Athena, rejected his advances over and over again. Used to getting his way, Poseidon followed Medusa into the temple of her goddess, violating her in front of Athena's statue and leaving her there, hurting and vulnerable.
Medusa fell at Athena's feet, begging for mercy and guidance - in vain.
The outraged goddess failed to empathise with her hurt priestess. Instead, she took her anger
out on young Medusa and cursed her, turning her into a monster. Her beautiful hair turned into snakes, her skin cracked, and her eyes were cursed, and looking at them would turn anyone to stone.
In Athena's eyes, that was a punishment fit for a traitor. No man will be after Medusa, unless it is to kill the monster woman.
And so it was, for Medusa died without anyone but her, Athena, and Poseidon knowing the truth. No one could look into her eyes, where the kind, pure, and beautiful priestess still resided, and survive to tell the tale.
The legend of Medusa, the serpent woman, is just a tale, but it is not unlike the story of a very real boy. A lonely, scared, and hopeful little orphan called Tom Marvolo Riddle, although everyone knows him today as Lord Voldemort, the man who fled from Death.
The man who didn't have enough humanity left in him to die.
This is the true story of Tom Marvolo Riddle, the boy, the man, the monster.
p.s. In this fic, 16 is "of age" for all purposes.
"In a world of whispered secrets and broken vows, a Raven dares to outwit the Serpent."
Tom's eyes flicked almost lazily to the tip of her wand, and his lips curved in something dangerously close to a smile.
His eyes moved back to her face. "Still so quick to defend yourself, Travers," he said, almost fondly.
"Tell me what you're doing," she said through her teeth.
He crouched, picked up a stone from the forest floor, and stood. "Answer a question for me, Selene," he said. "What are your favorite flowers?"
She narrowed her eyes. "Why?"
He just looked at her.
And in turn, she glared at him, refusing to answer.
But the answer bloomed in her thoughts anyway-quiet, unbidden.
Peonies.
He nodded once, almost as if he had heard her thoughts, and raised his wand over the stone. His lips moved, barely audible, a soft and intricate spell she didn't recognize.
And before her eyes, the rock bloomed.
Selene Evangeline Travers has never been one to seek attention. A pureblood in Ravenclaw, she has learned to navigate the expectations placed upon her-an unwanted engagement, a carefully crafted future.
Tom Marvolo Riddle is the name spoken in whispers. Brilliant, untouchable, and ruthless, he moves through Hogwarts like a king among men. No one questions him. No one dares to.
Their paths should never have crossed. But when Professor Slughorn assigns Tom as her tutor, Selene is drawn-unintentionally-into the sights of someone who does not take kindly to surprises.
And Tom Riddle does not let go of what intrigues him.
