Ashanti grows up with her father a widower because Ashanti's mother passed on when she was only 3. Ashanti is sent to Lalania to her Aunt Mrs. Marianah Norman so that she could be groomed into a woman or be taught how a house wife should behave i.e to be taught how to knit clothes and how to handle and take care of the house as a house wife.
