Former priest Zion Fitzwilliam never planned to return to the place that broke him.

After fleeing Gracepoint, he and Rosemary head north, back to the Commune-the isolated religious sect that once claimed his soul. But this time, he's not going back to stay. He's going back to save his sister and her children.

Disguised as a devout priest returning to his former community, Zion must convince the Superiors that he has finally seen the error of his ways. By his side is Rosemary, posing as a pious woman seeking to join the sisterhood. But beneath their disguises, they are walking a dangerous line, navigating a web of watchful eyes, whispered gossip, and the ever-present threat of being discovered.

The Superiors are suspicious, Adah is trapped in a life of silent suffering, and Rosemary is horrified by the way women are forced into submission. As Zion is pulled deeper into his old role, forced to preach the same doctrine that once enslaved him, the ghosts of his past claw their way to the surface.

Charley Beckett-perfectly sane, normal, Charley Beckett-counts everything. Years since her parents' unsolved murder: fifteen. Bodies she's found dead: three. Puncture wounds on each of their throats: two. People who believe her when she says vampires are to blame: zero. Since her parents' murder, she's tried to get past her hallucinations, PTSD, and her reputation as the little red-haired girl police found screaming about monsters that didn't-surely, couldn't-exist. But there's this story-conspiracy theory-swirling around her small town that says her father was part of a secret government experiment, one that would prove vampires weren't legends at all. And Charley can't move on. Especially when she stumbles upon a dead girl with the same bloody puncture wounds as her parents-and someone follows her home. Left with no one who believes her, Charley breaks into the abandoned facility where her father once worked, desperate to find the truth. But she's not the only one after answers. Victor, a handsome vampire, is there to convince her that not only is she perfectly sane, but he's the only one that can save her from those who seek to abuse her connection to the government's experiments. However, when Victor knows details about her parents' death that only the murderer could, Charley will need to learn to trust herself, no matter how crazy her thoughts may seem. If she doesn't, she'll go from counting bodies to counting her last heartbeats...one...two...three...nothing. "Maybe someone heard my screams or maybe the reaper wears combat boots..."

To her mother she has always been Chloe, but to the rest of the world she has had many names. Her life is a fiction, like the stories in a book, changing from place to place, village to village, town to town, from one end of Haven to the other. It has been that way ever since she can remember: a life of secrets, constantly on the run, fleeing the mysteries of her mother's past. But now things are changing. She is changing. The world she thought she knew is a tissue of lies. Things are happening that she cannot explain: troubling dreams and nightmares that seem no less real than life itself. And as the truth about her mother begins to unfold, Chloe finds herself caught up in a web of intrigue and deceit that reaches back to before the founding of Haven, when plans were put in motion that would determine her future and set her on a path to places beyond her imagining. Questions mount, and answers remain elusive. And when a decades old book that maintains the world is not the way it's supposed to be comes into her possession, Chloe is in for the shock of her life. The deeper she digs, the more terrifying the truth, until at last she must confront the possibility that in a world where to be human is to be one of a tiny minority, she may not even be that. She may be something else. Someone else. And the only place she may be safe is in her other life.
