Before the petrification, they were but a pair of high school students. They might have been smarter than their peers, much more knowledgeable too, but they were still just normal humans with hobbies, interests, and friends. 3700 years later, they awoke to a new world. Free of humans and their greed, free of the destroyed earth. Free from everything. So what would be the most logical thing to do? Rebuild the civilization, skip 2 million years of evolution, and go straight for quite advanced science. Mother Earth, which had almost four millennia to fix itself, was now again quite healthy, giving humans a big chance to advance in their science.
But still, they were just teens, rebuilding a scientific civilization, getting robbed of their last three years of freedom. Who'd want that? Getting robbed of high school romance and drama. Getting robbed of all their favourite things... Even though one of them couldn't care less about that.
But maybe all this will help them realize how they feel about things. Especially each other.
