After leaving Freeland behind, Khalil Payne has built a new life in Akashic Valley, a futuristic city riddled with crime and corruption. Struggling to suppress the Painkiller persona that still lurks within him, Khalil works from the shadows to protect the innocent while searching for redemption.

However, his past refuses to stay buried. A secretive organization known as The Veil emerges, seeking to harness the Painkiller programming for their own dark agenda-creating a new breed of enhanced assassins. Leading the charge against him is Cipher, a ruthless operative augmented with cybernetic enhancements, capable of predicting his every move.

With the help of his allies, Maya and Philky, Khalil uncovers a conspiracy involving illegal metahuman experiments, human trafficking, and political corruption at the highest levels. As he fights to dismantle The Veil, he faces an even greater challenge-keeping Painkiller from taking over completely.

As the season unfolds, Khalil must make a choice: suppress his inner darkness forever or embrace it to take down The Veil once and for all. But if he loses control, will there be anything left of the man he's trying to become?
