Between justice and death

Katerin, an orphaned maid, is sentenced to death for killing her master-Alderman Ethelred, a man who had tormented and violated her for years. As the day of her execution approaches, she does not beg for mercy but instead speaks the truth, revealing that she carries the child of her abuser. Among the gathered crowd, Pastor Yakob-the only one who believes in her innocence-tries to stop the execution, but the blade still falls. With her final breath, she whispers Yakob's name before her soul leaves the world, crossing the sacred river where her mother and guardian await, guiding her into the embrace of the gods.
