Derek McKenzie, a thriving businessman who is about to finalize the biggest deal in his life, stumbles into a night he will never escape. It all starts with the mysterious phone calls, with the unexpected rain, his drunken hands behind the steering wheel, and the little girl dressed in white sitting in the backseat of a red sedan before him. What should have been a twenty-minute detour, the lonely stretch down Sydenham Hill Road prove to be more than that, with its odd twists and turns that never seem to end. And if they are not enough, Derek is reminded by his estranged friend Richard of a secret they buried ten years ago, one that tore their lives apart. With the haunting visions, Derek is seemingly transported to his childhood some three decades ago, and his friendship with the new girl in town, Hailee Miles. His childhood with Hailee, his adulthood with Liz, and the haunting girl in white in the middle of the road-they all seem to come to Derek, as ONE TERRIFYING TRUTH! But how? That is what you (the readers) are yet to know.

Please, leave her alone," I say weakly, "she has nothing to do with this!" "That is where you are wrong, Melanie," he replies. I can actually hear the smile in his voice as he continues to speak. "You see, she is meddling in business that isn't hers to meddle in, and I told you that there would be punishment if you went to the police. Now, I must go. Laura requires my very special attention at the moment." A girl's scream rips through the receiver; Laura's. Before I can yell for him to stop, the line clicks. ••• When Melanie Larkin's best friend is murdered by Melanie's stalker, her and her mother flee to a new town where the FBI and police keep a watchful eye over them.
