Klaus believed Katherine's bloodline had ended with her. So when he caught wind of a rumour suggesting there might be a way to break his curse without relying on a doppelgänger, his curiosity compelled him to investigate.
His investigation led him to Persephone, a mysterious young woman unlike anyone he had ever met. At first, Klaus feigned affection, intending to use her for his own ends. But as time passed, he found himself unable to deny the truth of his feelings. Tragically, by the time he realised his love was real, it was already too late.
