Cassie never thought much about seatmates. Every quarter, the seating plan changed, and she never got close to the boys she sat next to. She preferred it that way. After all, she had never been comfortable around guys-except for one in her friend group, but even then, they weren't that close. For two years, she had quietly admired someone from afar, never daring to approach him. She had accepted that he would always be just a crush-until she got a new seatmate. At first, he was just like the others. But somehow, teasing him became her favorite part of the day. She didn't know when it started, but she liked seeing his reactions, joking about who he liked, and laughing at his annoyed expression. Maybe it was because he used to be best friends with her crush. Maybe that's why talking to him felt natural. She never expected them to become friends. And she definitely never expected him to confess. Everything had been perfect. Her longtime crush was finally noticing her. She was happy. She had everything she thought she wanted. So why, after hearing her seatmate's confession, did she feel like her whole world had just turned upside down?

Lifelines

"I'll wait as long as you need." he whispered and I felt myself blush. Carson would wait for me. He wanted me. I cleared my throat a little which made Carson laugh at my awkwardness. "Okay. I'll uh, wait for you too." I said and Carson's face broke out into a large smile. "I'm already there." Through the ups and downs life brings, Carson and Cassie have always been there for each other. They have been the best of friends since she was nine and he ten, where they shared their secrets together at their "top secret" place in the park. She's always had a special place for Carson in her heart but when her life goes into a downward spiral it is then she realizes how much she needs him, how much she loves him. He has loved Cassie for as long as he can remember. He's closed off when it comes to other people but when it comes to her it's like another person comes out. He likes the way she makes him feel. They depend on each other. But will being each others lifelines be too much?
