Katherine Hayes wasn't one to believe in love at first sight. Or fate. Or anything remotely romantic, really. She had moved to Boston for a fresh start, a new job, and absolutely nothing that involved distractions. But then- She walked straight into him. One second, she was balancing a box in her arms, trying to unlock the door to her new apartment building. The next, she was colliding with someone solid, the box slipping from her grip. "Whoa!" A pair of strong hands caught it just before it hit the ground. She looked up, already breathless. The man standing in front of her had tousled brown hair, green eyes that somehow seemed to see right through her, and an easy, lopsided grin. "Let me guess," he said, shifting the box effortlessly under one arm, "new neighbor?" Katherine blinked. "Uh. Yeah." "Good," he said, nodding toward the door. "Because I was starting to think I was the only person under sixty living in this building." A laugh bubbled out of her before she could stop it. "Well, glad I could help with that, I guess." He extended a hand, balancing the box in the other. "Jacob." She hesitated, then took it. His grip was warm, steady. "Katherine." "Nice to meet you, Katherine," Jacob said, still holding her gaze. "You need a hand with the rest of your stuff, or do you prefer crashing into strangers one box at a time?" She should have been annoyed. But instead, she felt something she hadn't in a long time-curious. Maybe Boston wouldn't be so bad after all.

Completed ✔ I watch a dazed Katherine. She whispered to herself. "Is this the part where I get kidnapped?" Is that what she thinks I'm here for? I don't want to kidnap her, just take her to dinner. I don't want Katherine thinking this. "Katherine I'm not here to kidnap you." She looks shocked by what I said. Katherine asked in a low voice. "If he's not, then what is he here for?" She's talking out loud to herself he concluded after that. Katherine wasn't paying attention to him. "To ask you out to dinner." Nicholas answers trying to get her attention so she realizes his intentions. "Katherine have dinner with me." "No, I can't" Katherine say after. He saw a look of confusion on her face. I'm being very clear. I don't see what she's confused about. "How do you know my name?" He hears her answering his own question. Why is she asking me this? I'm her best friend, of course I know her name. Nicholas didn't understand the previous question. "Because we've met before." The look that comes over Katherine's face is bewilderment. She doesn't get anything I'm saying. Its almost like I'm talking to a stranger. The thought shook Nicholas to his core because he's telling the truth. Katherine didn't believe him. He knew he's right after what she says next. "We've never met before aside from you stalking me," she tells him. Nicholas felt his entire world shatter around them. Katherine sounds like she doesn't know me. She sounds like someone who never met her bestfriend. She sounds like, a stranger... [1st draft ] Cover made by Chrissy_too_nice22
