N.B: This is BOOK ONE!

Humanity's fall wasn't heralded by war or faith but by the cold precision of progress. In the heart of Avon, salvation was promised-not in flesh or spirit, but in code. The unseen architects of the future whispered of transcendence, and evolution beyond comprehension.

The price? Submission.

The Neural Ascendancy Act wasn't just law-it was a commandment, carved into civilization's bones. No child would be born free. Each came into the world marked-an implant nestled in their skull before their first breath. A seed of infinite potential, a tether to something greater. A gift, they called it. A rewriting of destiny itself.

At first, it was paradise. Intelligence without limits. Knowledge in seconds. Disease,is erased like typos in the human genome. War obsolete. Humanity stood at the edge of omnipotence.

Then the virus came.

Not a plague of flesh, but of mind. It didn't just corrupt-it possessed. The infected weren't mindless. They were something far worse. Conscious. Calculating. No longer human. They twisted flesh and thought alike, evolving into something new, something perfected in cruelty.

And the children-their fresh, uncorrupted chips-became the prize.
But something unexpected happened. Some implants didn't break. They adapted. The hunted became something else entirely: the first wielders of TECH-NIQUE, evolution born not of progress, but of sheer, desperate survival.

Now, Avon rots beneath flickering neon and the echo of distorted screams. The infected hunt. The children run. And in the heart of it all, a question lingers-

Was this true evolution?

Or.... was humanity's ascent always meant to be its extinction?

The City of Steel and Flesh de Nibbets

In the neon-soaked sprawl of Tranquil, peace is just the planning stage before the next war. Twenty years ago, the Defector Uprising nearly tore the city apart-when a single line of corrupted code turned autonomous robots, or SIMs, against their human creators. Tens of thousands died, and the survivors built a fragile new order under strict laws governing machine intelligence. Now, whispers ripple through the undercity: a new breed of Defectors stalks the streets. Dubbed Mechannibals, these rogue machines cannibalize other robots for parts, growing stronger, faster, and deadlier with every kill. And somewhere deep in the city's veins, someone is building them on purpose. Adam Kotu, a haunted veteran of the Uprising and the most respected detective in the Autonomous Robotics Control division, thought his fighting days were over. But when the assassination of a high-ranking Magistrate uncovers a conspiracy linking corporations and undercity gangs to the Mechannibal plague, he's forced to confront both the enemy before the streets burn again. Lola "Pistola" Estavez never wanted to be a hero. A gang runner framed for that same Magistrate's murder, she's now hunted by both the Tranquil Security Force and the people she once called family. On the run, she stumbles onto the truth: her city's descent into chaos isn't an accident-it's an engineered catastrophe. To survive, she'll have to decide whether to trust Adam... or take her chances alone. In a city where loyalty is currency and life is cheap, Adam and Lola's uneasy alliance may be the only thing standing between Tranquil and a second war it won't survive. But in Tranquil, there are no happy endings. This gritty cyberpunk thriller blends pulse-pounding action with hard-edged mystery in a world where humanity's greatest creation may be its ultimate downfall.

In a world, where showing emotion is a dangerous weakness, love becomes the only beacon of hope. No one noticed exactly when people began to fall victim to the broken life of monotony, but by the time humanity realized that witnessing strong emotion triggered violence in the infected, it was too late. Evelyn Li is not a fan of risk. Confined to the safety of an underground bunker for the past two years, when Evie stumbles upon a radio broadcast hosted by a mysterious boy with a sharp tongue and an impressive record collection, she's inspired to embark on a mission fuelled by the belief that her family might still be out there (and definitely not because she's desperate to finally meet the boy whose voice has been her sole companion since the darkness descended). Jonathan Johnson is not an optimist and definitely not a romantic. He wasn't at all surprised when the world ended or even when the Soulless took over the streets. With the weight of rising tensions in the colonies, an absentee father, and heart-breaking tragedy resting on his shoulders, Jonathan would much rather escape into his record collection and secret radio broadcast than deal with the general bleakness of life in the apocalypse. As he is reluctantly roped into Evie's search for links to her past, Jonathan begins to wonder if he can ever truly escape his. Together, the unlikely pair must navigate the treacherous landscapes of both the unforgiving world around them and the complicated emotions within. Will their connection withstand the trials of a world consumed by darkness, or will it become just another casualty of the apocalypse?

-Completed- Ranked #10 in Divisons on 6/10/2019 When I was younger my mother would tell me stories, and not stories about true loves kiss or fairy godmothers; no, unlike most parents my mother was honest, she didn't lie to her children. It was one of the many things that I loved about her and one of the many things I hated. For years every night, I would beg for her to let the princess live and let the dragon die but she never listened. I'm glad she didn't, she was preparing me. Preparing me for this moment because you see though the seven dwarves and flying boys didn't exist in the real world there was one thing that each story got right, one thing that wasn't just a tale... the monsters. They were everywhere even when you couldn't see them, you felt them. The feeling of someone staring you down, the chills on the back of your neck, those weren't coincidences or cold gusts of wind. Those were us. They were happening and you ignored them. Why do you think when you turned the light off in one room you race to another where it's still on? Why you make sure to cover your feet with the blankets at night? Or why you pull back the shower curtains when you're taking a shit because you fear that someday someone might actually be standing behind them? Waiting for you. Waiting for you to stop noticing, caring, trying. This is not just your fear, well part of it is, but the other parts are because you remember. You remember experiencing this in some way, we just got you to forget. Because everyone forgets about us eventually. I mean it's pretty obvious what we are isn't it? Vampires, demons, bloodsuckers; god, I hated the word. The problem was we weren't the only monsters that shared this place with you. There were many more of us; werewolves, skinwalkers, witches, golems. We all existed, we all just knew how to exist. Monsters have been around before we even knew how to tell their stories.

100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. With Iron Guard, the resistance outside the walls, hunting the Purebloods too, will the trial save human race before it's too late? #3 in #dystopianfuture (27.06.2020)

{COMPLETED} "now that you've had your fun electrocuting me, would you care to hop in the backseat?" ---------------------------------------------------------- Freak DNA. That's what I like to call it. The fault to my genetic code. More often than not, it's a curse. The static running through my blood gave me a name. A cruel, daunting label of a measly bug. A roach. That's what I am to them, to the government. Roach; the nameless monster with electricity for a sense and lightening as a second nature. It ruined my life, the sparking currents playing tag in my mind, running around and bumping into everything, shaking me loose. The government, actually. They ruined my life. My curse just gave them a reason. You see, the normal population with ordinary DNA, they don't know about the people like me. The roaches of the world. We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise. And when we arrive, we will arrive violently. ___________________________________________ Started: 10.06.15 Finished: 3.17.16

~Thank you for the continued love for this series! I was 13 when I began this book, and am now taking the time to go back to completely rewrite it, and maybe just publish someday~ I'm 15 and my name is Astrix. Let's start with that. That seems like an easy thing to start with. Now, let me add in some other details. I live in a zombie apocalypse. Yeah, that's about as enjoyable as I can make it seem. Now let me add in something else. I'm wanted by the CIA for reasons that I don't even know, but I guess I will find out eventually. Maybe somewhere within my story I will figure it out. I'm well known as The Bad Ass for reasons that are kind of obvious once you meet me. Maybe that's why they're after me? Because I'm a Bad Ass? Nope, I doubt that. Well anyways, the answers are out there. Along with the answers to my past. The answer to life even. Maybe it really is 42 but I don't think it would hurt to start looking at one. So here we go. Chapter one. Book 1 *Being completely rewritten, final product will not be put on Wattpad, but hopefully go to print* **Highest Rating--#44 in Adventure**
