This dystopian and sci-fi novel is like the hunger games: there is no right and wrong and all of the kids lives are on the line, constantly. Kids are trained to be adults by the age of 9, fighting for themselves and others in the side of Shlan. Living in the streets and being friends with rats is the way to go for them.
