He exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "Can we just be cool for the summer?"
She stared at him for a moment, his profile tense yet unreadable.
Cool for the summer. Like nothing had ever happened. Like she didn't feel like she was unraveling every time she was near him.
She sighed, leaning back against the seat. "Fine. As long as you don't try to kiss me again, we can be cool."
Conrad's fingers flexed against the wheel. His lips pressed together, like he was biting back a response.
Finally, he nodded.
"Okay."
The word was simple, but the way he said it made her stomach twist.
