Arthur looked up at you then. His eyes were soft and wrecked at the same time.

"The third," you said, "is deep. Unshakable. It is the one that never burns out. It might glow softer. It might hurt different. But it is the one that does not go away when the firewood runs low."

"I have met you three times in my life, Arthur Morgan," you said. "And every single time, you have made me fall in love with you all over again. You're the only way I know how to love."

You sat down beside him, close enough that your thighs brushed. You did not look at him yet. You looked at your hands.

"That third kind is the one you are supposed to build your life on," you said. "The one you are supposed to protect. Not keep throwin' into fires to see if it survives."

You finally met his eyes. "Do not make me fall for you a fourth time, Arthur."
