Long ago, the seven kingdoms were blessed with the birth of twins, a girl and a boy, Morana and Daeron. One, sweet and bright as the sun and gold, one who was a nightmare, strong and dark as the king who reigned then, their father. They were the first two born heretics, born from the crash of two great powers. Morana was the rightful heir to the throne of Volantis, the first born child of the royal family, a ruler to rule them all, but her story is not one of fairy tales and good fairies. When she was born, all the pegans of the magical kingdoms feared, for she was, although a child, the spitting image of her father, Daemon Dolor, a cruel and merciless king, the first heretic, wielder of shadows and master of spirits. He was known for the pain he caused and his madness. With his death and that of his queen, all seven kingdoms rose in rebellion, driving Morana from what was rightfully hers. They were fed up with tyranny and darkness, they chose the sun, the light, they believed that bringing Daeron to the throne would change their lives. He was a master of the sun, beautiful as the moon and stars, the spitting image of the queen who was pure in soul and kind in heart. Little did they know, this would be only the beginning of what was to come. Their lives, far from what they expected, worse than before. War and death. Now, all hope lies in Morana and her power to dethrone Daeron. New alliances are formed, battles are fought, and battles change the course of history. Fire-breathing beasts will join them in the war to come. It is only a matter of time and strategy. Now, with new and unexpected allies, Morana is forced to choose the kingdom that exiled her over the blood she shares with Daeron.

Like many low elves in the kingdom of Edresh, Morana was orphaned as a child during the war against neighboring Araphel. But Morana is more fortunate than most, and is taken to live in the palace as a companion to a captive princess, Astreia. She and Astreia become like sisters, and Morana nurses a tension-filled friendship with the sometimes cruel, but always charming High Elf Prince Tievel. But even with the war over, all is not well in Edresh. A curse spreads through the land, raising ghouls and monsters and stealing the lives of the unborn. Yet it is ignored by the High Elf nobility, whose immortality renders such concerns beneath them. Then, the king-Tievel's grandfather-is killed by a magical Araphelian assassin known as a Reaper. When Morana encounters the Reaper as he's making his escape, he reveals a truth that Morana had long-denied: she is one of the last Deathsingers, a wielder of the very same forbidden magic that inspired the king's savage assault on Araphel. Furthermore, her ability to Sing away immortality might just be the key to stopping the horrors slowly consuming their world... But only if she is willing to condemn those like her dear Tievel, who have only ever known eternal life, to the cold permanence of death. To right the wrongs of long ago and prevent the world's unraveling, Morana must dive head first into the sort of danger she's always avoided and venture into Araphel with her friends. But the Reaper is always close behind, a constant reminder of both what Morana is and the impossible sacrifice she might be called upon to make...
